Separation of Church and State. Back to this topic. Islamic Law or Sharia says that there can be no separation of church and state. In the United States and most other Western nations this is unfamiliar to us-somewhat. In the West, our laws are as well open for interpretation, which is why we have the judicial system. Since they are open to interpretation, it makes us hard to really know what is right and what is wrong in some cases. Just look at all the disputes in history. This is why we have judges. But, judges are there so that they assure that religion or politics are left out of the decision. (Some don't do that). The United States would be much different if this was not true. What if all people still did not have equal protection under the law. We all know what happened before equal rights practices were undertaken in this country. It was not pretty and not fair. I believe that this is some of the worry that Westerners have about non-secular states.
